P a i n t i n g

Until he retires from the visual arts in 2006, Ron Meerbeek spends over thirty years making paintings - mainly oil on canvas, but with occasional forays into other mediums and grounds.

Presented here is a somewhat comprehensive selection.  Most of the early works are now in private collections, but where possible, images of them have been included.

Works from the now-notorious Shoes of Imaginary Creature - a sprawling one hundred and twenty panel collective - are here, as are examples from the numerous other series he executes around the same time.

Better represented are his later works, when he moves from literal figure-ism into abstract literalism.

And as a special treat, we have even included what turns out to be the very last painting he ever did!

All in all, it’s a visual feast for the aesthetically anorexic!

But hold the front page!

2013 marks the year that Meerbeek resumes painting.  He produces a series of figurative works inspired by a stay in hospital, a few new additions to his occasional Cover Version series and a tantalising preview of a new character from a forthcoming children’s book.

And keep your eyes peeled peeps, cos there’s more where that came from.
